host is a hospital?

im a nursing student and i have been looking for jobs in my hospitalbut there arent any NA positions right now so i applied for a Host in Food service just so i can get in the hospital and work my way into being a NA when a postion opens up and then eventually be a RN there. can you guys tell me what a host in food service does in the hospital? thanks everyone!

I was a food service host in a hospital back in high school. Granted it was a while ago, but the hosts in my hospital worked in patient 'dining areas' (kind of like LTC facilities have). A couple of the floors (rehab and peds) had a patient dining room area where patients could eat together. A food service host was assigned to each during meal times to assist with residents and food requests and running (extra drinks, missing items, etc). We also prepared and delivered "room service" requests to rooms between meals and helped keep the floor refrigerators stocked with basic items that the nurses used frequently for patients like juices, crackers, etc.

ok thank you so much..so i wont have to actually be preparing the food?

Not sure about your hospital. The only time we did things like that was during down time, we would helping with plating individual items (like filling fruit cups, laddeling pudding cups, wrapping cookies, etc)

thank you...it sounds like your hospital and mine might be the same i have seen the host on the floors at my hospital and they would come around and help with selecting meal options with the patients and deleiver the trays

the hosts in my facility help load the trays (special diets so watch the order!) and they deliver them to the floors or rooms, depending on the patient's need. I hope this facility offers tuition reimbursement. That would be great to help you learn the hospital protocols, some of the staff, and then transfer to other departments as your career progresses. Make friends with the Staff Development (Education) people. I am precepting several nursing students (or wanna be's) now, encouraging them to finish school.
