Anyone actively seeking an assignment finding that hospitals seem to be dragging their feet the past couple of weeks? I'm wondering if they are getting cold feet about hiring travelers due to the government shutdown and possibility of default after 17th. Thinking, maybe they are waiting to see what happens before hiring the travelers. Analysts say that a government default would lead to another Great Depression. I've encountered a couple of hospitals that have said even though they have traveler listings open, they are going to try to fill them with staff before actually hiring travelers. Other hospitals seem to be dragging their feet on calling for interviews, or making offers after the interview. I've noticed this all just in the past 10 days.
What effect is the current political situation having on travel nurses, right now, from your perspective?

Zero. By their nature, travelers are short term, and that is what hospitals hire them for. In fact, any uncertainty in the near term should make any prudent business put off long term decisions, like hiring more permanent staff.
It is completely anecdotal if any one traveler is having some difficulty nailing down an assignment. That can happen coincidentally at any time of the year (although there are some periods where it is usually slow), and in the best of years for travelers. Only the heads of the largest agencies would be able to make such statements with any accuracy, no recruiter or traveler could.

It has been slow it was like this last year around this time as well. It really depends on location.
