Hospitals near Columbus, MS

Published

I am thinking of relocating to Columbus, MS and wanted to know about the hospitals in the area. I actually posted a salary question in the General Discussion, but thought I might get better response here. I wanted to know what the starting pay (approx) for a new grad is. I am working in an ER for the past 3 months and make 20.95 base, $27.25 contracting to work weekends.

I know Baptist is in the area, but what other hospitals are there and what city are they in? Does the AFB have a hospital on base?

Any general info about the area would be greatly appreciated!

REMOTE REMOTE boondocks comes to mind. I had a friend do his pilot training there and those were his words. Unfortunately I have no idea whether there's a hospital there or not. If there was it sounds like it would be small. I'm pretty sure you'd need to go to a large neighbouring city like Jackson or Tupelo and commute.

There's another hospital in Starkville. It's about 20 mins from columbus.

Don't let someone who has never been to Mississippi scare you away! Especially a Canadian who knew somebody at the Columbus Air Base - which is totally different world! [No offense Z's Playa]

Columbus is a beautiful, progressive town, I would call it mid-size for Mississippi towns. Columbus has a major university, Mississippi University for Women (that is really co-ed and has a Nursing program), great shopping, wonderful restaurants, and is less than an hour drive from many other towns such as Starkville, Oxford, Tupelo and Tusculoosa, Alabama. The capitol of Mississippi, Jackson is just 2 hours away and Nashville and Memphis, Tennessee are close too.

Hospitals in the area include Baptist Memorial Hospital - Golden Triangle and Oktibbeha County Hospital in the near-by town of Starkville (home of Mississippi State University.) And if you need a larger hospital, as I said Tusculoosa isn't too far away!

Why not make a visit and see what you think???

Thanks for taking my statement as it was meant... as a funny... :p

And come visit us sometime. The fact that it is rural and agricultural isn't for everybody. But... several nurses who were recruited from Canada in the 90's fell in love with good ole Mississippi boys and made this great state their home.

Actually I was thinking of going to Mississippi to the women's college for nursing but opted to stay here in 30 ft of snow

I'd love to go visit however I dont have the cash right now. In fact....not sure I'll ever have cash again with this student loan getting higher and higher. :)

Snow... Hummm isn't that that white stuff we Mississippians see on Christmas Cards and Bing Crosby sings about in "White Christmas" ???... HaHa

The Mississippi University for Women (now co-ed) has an excellent nursing program!

Mississippi is an inexpensive place to visit (and live), so start putting pennies away and maybe soon you'll be making those big bucks and can come experience some of our S'uth'rn Hosptality !

I did make it out to Columbus, and the closest hospital there is Golden Triangle, which was a lot larger than the hospital I work in now (my hosp has a 16 bed ER, 4 bed ICU, 33 bed Med/Surg), and they are doing construction on the hospital. . . .looks promising!

Thanks for all the info! If I relocate, then I will definantly look into Golden Triangle and the hosp in Starkville!

Hey yall! I'm a MUW nursing student, so I'm in Columbus regularly. :)

There's hospital that comes to mind is Baptist (Golden Triangle) in Columbus - of course OCH in Starkville, Tuscaloosa is about an hour's drive away, same for Tupelo - where there's a sprawling NMMC facility. There's also a smaller NMMC hospital in West Point (where I did my clinicals during the fall), about 30 miles from Columbus.
