Hello All!
I've lived in Philadelphia my whole life but am most likely moving to Monto County after I graduate in May. I wanted to start applying to hospitals in January but I'm not too familiar with a lot of the hospitals in Monto County. My clinicals so far have been in fast paced urban hospitals and so far I have loved it and I know that I'm looking for the excitment, diversity, better salary, and working in a teaching hospital. But on the other hand I'm not looking forward to the commute, paying for parking, city wage tax and crime. I'm looking for the best of both worlds- a well respected suburban hospital where I could possibly start out in the ER and learn a lot but not be too overwhelemed to the fact that I get lost in the shuffle. Also salarly is important to me. This may sound like a crazy question but are there any hospitals that pay the same rate/similar to what nurses make in the city?
I know in academics I've always succeeded in settings where the class size was small and it was easier to form relationships w/professors and fellow students, so I'm thinking that is what I want when I graduate. What do you all think? Your opinion will be greatly appreciated! :monkeydance:

Hi Dogluvr,
If you can tell me what part of Montco. you are considering relocating to, I can help you out with what hospitals are closest to you. If you expect to live on the west side of the county, some of the Chester County hospitals might actually be closer to you - these include Phoenixville and Paoli. In Montgomery County, you would have Pottstown if you live in the NW part of the county, plus you could also consider Reading Hospital even though it is not in Montco. If you live towards the central or eastern part of the county, then you would be closer to Montgomery and Mercy Suburban in Norristown, Central Montgomery in Lansdale and Abington. If in the NE aspect of Montco, you would also be closer to Doylestown in Bucks County and Grandview. If in Southern Montco, you would be closer to Bryn Mawr, Lankenau and some of the Delaware County hospitals.
I have worked in the ER at a couple of the above-named hospitals and have friends that work at some of the others. Feel free to semd me a private message if you have any questions. :)
