Hospitals In Nassau / Long Island

U.S.A. New York

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience in the hospitals in long island.... such as St. Francis Hospital, North Shore, Long Island Jewish Med Ctr?

Any information about salaries and benefits would be appreciated. Thanks

Right now I believe that St. Francis is a little over 68k. My best friend works there and she's not that happy there. They expect her to put the hospital before her license. (I wont go into details)

I know one of the APN's at North Shore LIJ. She is pretty much content with her job. Im not sure if its because she makes her own hours and gets paid more than she did in a Manhattan hospital, but in a nutshell, that was what she told me the last time we spoke. My 2 godkids and my best friends 3 kids were born there and everytime that I was there, it seemed to have a nice atmosphere. The nurses for the most part were diligent.

I work at Winthrop in Mineola as a PCA in the ER while I finish nursing school. The hospital is nice, the people are friendly, they have an excellent new grad orientation program, the salary is in the 60's with a night shift differential. i believe days make 62K and nights 68K... they have a tuition reimbursement program (I believe $3500 per year) and the health insurance is very cheap (it's free for a single, minimal amount for a family plan - I think like $30 a check or something). They also fill prescriptions at the hospital pharmacy for all employees, free of charge.

My clinical instructor works at LIJ and she loves it. She calls it the Mecca of Healthcare. LOL. She said it also has a great benefits package, their tuition reimbursement is $6000/year (one of the highest in LI), they have great orientation for new grads, and it is a friendly environment. My cousin actually works there now but I haven't heard how it is from her.

My other cousin works at St. Francis and she wasn't happy there. I don't know if it is because she didn't like the hospital itself or if she just didn't like nursing. She started there about a year and a half ago and she's still there so maybe she got used to it. I don't know.

And I have another friend who works at North Shore Manhasset and loves it. Not sure about the benefits and stuff.

The pay is pretty much the same across the island... in the $60's with night shift making closer to the $70's.

I know theres a few hospitals like NS and Franklin Hospital that are in the NYNSA union, however does anyone know if any of the Nassau hospitals are in the 1199 union?.....The 1199 website did not seem to show any.
