Can anyone tell me which hospitals in las Vegas has the best benefits? Which hospitals are unionized? Do any of the hospitals have a retirement or pension plan?I heard some hospitals don't even have 24 hr residents or intensivists in house to help out with codes and the charge nurse ends up running the code. Where I worked, there was always an MD,critical care nurses, an IV therapist, RTs, and lab techs at a code. Thanks for your input.

UMC has the best benefits, hands down. When I worked @ UMC (not as a nurse -- still a student here), they gave us the breakdown of how much they spend on each employee for their health plan.. and it was quite a bit (I forget the exact number). UMC has an amazing health plan where as long as you go to their primary care clinics, there is no co-pay. And if you go to an outside hospital or clinic, I think it is the standard 80/20. Also, UMC has its own retirement account setup.. where the employee does not pay into social security, but rather into a pension fund.

Most hospitals in Las Vegas have residents rotating (Valley and UMC are both teaching hospitals that are associated with medical schools), and I know Sunrise and St. Rose hospitals have residents do certain rotations there. And most hospitals here do employ hospitalists and internists. And I have never heard of a hospital not having RT's 24 hrs a day and lab techs. Not sure on how the codes work at different hospitals though.

Hope that helps! :)

sister mike is right !! UMC has awesome benefits..

I completely agree. UMC has great benefits - full pension, longevity bonuses (big check annually after 8 years based on percentage of pay).

There are docs, residents, RT, Lab techs, Radiology 24/7. When a code is called on the floor (even on graveyard) so many people show up that you have to kick people out of the room. ER docs will even come up to the floor for intubation, code etc... if necessary.
