hospital jobs

U.S.A. Oklahoma

I am a first semester RN student and I'm trying to get my foot in the door at a hospital in OKC...does anyone have any experience they can share on what sort of jobs they worked as students? I don't really know what I should apply for...nurse recruiters aren't interested YET, and I'm having a hard time navigating hospital web sites...is it better to apply in person or online? Any suggestions would be welcome...Thanks!

Mercy has the Student Flex Team, it pays $10/hr + differentials (eg $12+/hr on weekends). You need to have completed your first semester of nursing school for that. All the hospitals have externship type programs in the summer btwn your junior and senior year.

I would also go in and talk to the nurse recruiter and see what you are qualified for now...transport, food service, etc.

I was a Nurse Recruiter for a couple of years at INTEGRIS. Once you have completed two semesters of clinicals you qualify to work as a Nurse Extern. I would encourage you to go ahead and talk with INTEGRIS Health about opportunities. They are a wonderful place to begin your nursing career. If you are interested, I know one of the Nurse Recruiters and would be happy to get you in touch with her.

Also, once you have completed this semester of nursing (and as long as you have taken your Foundations course and clinical), you would qualify to work as an Aide. This would be really beneficial for you. Many of the Nurse Managers will work with your school schedule.

Let me know if you need my help for a contact at INTEGRIS.
