Hospital jobs for future nurse?

Published

I'm not in nursing school yet, but I hope to be next fall. What kinds of jobs could I get in a hospital setting now or when I'm in nursing school, and what kind of salary could I hope to earn? Hold a bachelor's degree, if that matters. TIA.

After you complete your first semester of nursing school, some hospitals will hire you on as tech, which is basically a nursing assistant, just a new name for it. It all depends on where you live as to pay. When I was a tech maybe 2 or 3 years ago, I made somewhere around $11/hr.

You could look on hospital websites for jobs in your area. They usually list what is available with a pay/salary range.

Nursing assistant is the most common hospital nursing student job; it is what I did for four years.

There are others, most will require a certification or a short spell of training that can be found at a technical college. Phlebotomists draw blood from patients for lab work is one. The skills you learn will do you well.

There are EKG techs who go take EKG readings in patients rooms and well as EKG monitor techs who monitor heart rhythms of telemetry patients.

Patient transporter is a job that I don't think requires and additional training. You get some free exercise in a large teaching hospital like mine.

HI! I don't really know what this whole litserv thing is about so bare with me. I'm in my 3rd year of school and not in the nursing program yet. I hope to get in next fall if all goes well. I eventually want to get my Bachelor's degree in Nursing but will probably go with my Associate's first because I heard some hospitals will pay for the rest of your schooling once you are employed with them. I'm not sure what type of Nurse I want to be.. I just know that I'm interested in the field. I have never worked in a hospital or done anything to do with health care, so this is all pretty new to me. Does anyone have any advice for me?
