hi,
does anyone have any information on any programs that allow hm's to transition to lpn??? i was a six year hospital corpsman in the united states navy. i have been out for two years and have worked as a pct, cna and medical assistant. i know that community colleges offer programs, but i have heard about on-line programs also???? i have already finished all my pre-reqs for the rn program, but the wait to get into school is crazy. i'm a single mom and need something a little sooner....i know i should have done this when i first got out, but was discouraged by many...anyway...i'm in florida so if anyone can help...that would be wonderful and greatly appreciated..
thanks

Ive read enough threads with the same question to tell you that only CA and VA offer this option. So, unless youre located there I dont think you'll be able to.
Hopefully, If Im wrong someone will come along and correct me! :)
Good Luck..~

When I was a HM (I was in San Diego) many moons ago we were allowed to challenge the CA BON for the LVN. I was a Pharm Tech and was awarded an associates in science from a NY university for that education also.
I would contact the VA and ask about educational benefits/assistance. There should be a way for you to challenge the BON with proper paperwork.
Good luck!

We have a CNA where I work with the exact same problem, and it totally sucks because she is so knowledgeable. Try the VA...at the very least, there are a LOT of educational assistance programs for nurses. Most of them require you to work for the VA for a year I think though, so sooner is better. And you're prior military, a HUGE "in".
Good luck to you!!!!

Naval corpsmen are eligible for the Excelsior nursing program to become RN's. www.excelsior.edu Don't waste your time with LPN, your knowledge and experience plus pre-nursing courses put you above the LPN level of education and practice already. You should be able to get through the Excelsior program in about the same time period.
