Reading some of the post here I think I understand that there are more than one type of hospice? In hospital and as outpatient or home bound, is this correct... I didn't realize there was a specific area for hospice in the hospital?

It depends on the hospital. Some hospitals do have hospice floors or designated hospice beds on other floors, oncology for example. Other hospitals don't have any inpatient hospice beds, but, obviously, people are admitted for end of life care on other floors. There are inpatient hospice facilities, which can be separate from the hospital. I believe the majority of hospice patients are at home. Others receive hospice services at their long term care or skilled nursing facilities. Lots of options!

I used to live in an area where there was a free-standing inpatient hospice facility. While the facility was affiliated with a local hospice agency, it was not part of an acute care hospital system.
Interesting, thanks for the replies. I knew pt's were admitted for end of life care just didn't realize there were hospitals or wards specifically for hospice..thanks again.
