Hoping to start petition process but I have a dui

Nurses Criminal

Published

Hello! I've recently been able to go back to school and I have always wanted to go for nursing but the opportunity has finally come that I can. I've been doing some research hoping to petition to start at MATC at the beginning of January of 2013. I notice that they do a background check. I got a dui in 2011 but that's the only thing that would be on my record, it doesn't even show up on the wisconsin circuit court site. Has anyone else been admitted through the petition process with a dui? I'm just really hoping that it doesn't affect anything because I'd really like to do this. I dont want to start the entire process only to find out I'm denied because of this.

I am a current MATC nursing student and they spoke of things like this. Having something like that won't necessarily mean you won't get in. Be honest and disclose it. That's the most important thing on any form that asks about those type of things. You could also call (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME - PLEASE DO NOT POST NAMES OF INDIVIDUALS PER TOS) who is the person who does all that type of thing and talk to her about it ahead of time. She is quick to get back to people too. Not sure of her number off hand but she is downtown in the petition office. Don't give up!

We can't answer your question - best to check with the school as well as the state board of nursing.

I went to the downtown campus and spoke with a counselor about it and he said he didn't know but actually said I contact ***** as well so I will give her a call. After doing more research I am more worried about completing school and attempting to get my license. Everywhere I read its always a different story from state to state. I just wish I knew specifically of someone in wisconsin who had a dui and attempted to get their license after completing nursing school. I will give **** a call though and see what she says.

Well I contacted the person at MATC and she said it wouldn't effect anything at all, neither petition or clinicals or anyhting so that's a big relief.
