Hoping for some insight with pre-requisites

Nursing Students Western Governors

Published

I have several friends who have gotten their RN-BSN though and were very satisfied! However, they didn't have as many pre-req's to take as I do. My questions is how long should I plan on the whole process taking to obtain my BSN with the following issues: I have several pre-requisites to take: History, Human Growth and Development, Biochemistry, Health Assessment, Applied Health Assessment, and Stats. I am really hoping to be done in 2.5 years. I have always been a pretty motivated student, etc., but I wasn't expecting to have so many pre-req's! I do work full-time but am still planning on spending 15-20 hours per week on school work. Any thoughts? Advice?

Thank you, everyone, for your insight! I am excited to start my journey to BSN on July 1st!

@hopefulprayers1: The pre-reqs depend on what courses you have already completed. The process is super easy---just call and get your transcripts sent to (and other schools you are considering), and have them do a transcript evaluation. Only then will you be able to know what pre-reqs are required, since all of our educational paths are different from others. Most of the pre-reqs were just the pre-reqs required to get into any nursing program. (A&P, college math, communications, psychology, etc). I've just never taken biochemistry or stats, so I have some extra to do...

ALSO, the classes all start on the first of every month, so you can start whenever you are ready!

I started April 1st and I have finished care of the older adult, biochem, health assessment & applied health assessment and I am working on behavioral health sciences right now, when I finish this class I will have 12 CU's done in about 2 months. I am not killing myself either, it's totally doable! Good luck!
