In order to be eligible to apply to the nursing program you must be enrolled in FSCJ as a student and be admitted to the college as a student. If you have not taken your general education courses you must begin in the Admission Office, meet with an Student Success Advisor (904-766-6700) to begin taking the general education courses required before you can apply to the nursing program. Once accepted into the program, it will take sixteen months to complete.

In order to be eligible to apply to the nursing program you will need to summit the following to the nursing department in a complete packet attached together:

1. Nursing Application

2. Students must pull a student copy of the FSCJ transcript from Connections showing that they have completed BSC 2085C, BSC 2086C, and MAC 1105 completed with a grade of "C" or better before applying. MCB 2010 C must be completed with a grade of "C" or better before applying.

4. CPR American Heart Association (Healthcare Provider), that includes hands-on simulated experiences. A copy must be attached front and back

5. All students must have a 2.0 or higher GPA just to apply.

Acceptance into the program is based on the point system in the nursing packet that was emailed to you. The higher your points are, the better your chances.

Class and Clinical Schedules:

1. Class and clinical schedules will vary and students SHOULD NOT make work or other commitments until the semester begins and schedules have been finalized.

2. Class Instructors and clinical facilities are subject to change. Listing an instructor's name or a clinical facility in no way obligates the college to provide said instructor or facility.

3. Typically, Daytime classes are offered during the daytime (8 am-6 pm). However, it may be necessary to schedule classes during the evening, e.g. 6 pm - 9 pm.

4. Typically, Evening/Weekend classes are scheduled from 6 pm - 10 pm weeknights and clinicals from 7 am - 7 pm on weekends. But, it may be necessary to attend some scheduled activities such as course testing/special events and/or clinical site orientation during the day.

5. Orientation to clinical agencies is an agency requirement and may be scheduled daytime, nights, or weekends.

6. Clinical experience requires students to be prepared which necessitates going to the hospital on the day before clinicals to obtain the assignments (Applies to both Day and Evening/Weekend students). Clinical hours may vary due to holidays and students are expected to adjust their personal schedules accordingly.

7. Sections with a small number of registered students are subject to cancellation. Students so impacted will be reassigned to another section with the goal of achieving successful program objectives and meaningful student learning.

8. All students' testing is scheduled during out of class time on Mondays. ALL TESTING IS ON MONDAY FOR DAY AND WEEKEND/EVENING STUDENTS. Students must be an FSCJ student to apply.

1. The number of students who typically apply for the nursing program?

2. How many students the program accepts?

Fall 144 seats

Spring 144 seats

Summer 96 seats

3. Any additional test requirements and if so, what's the cost and how many times can you take it?

HESI A2 test call (904) 766-6708 to sign up.

It can be taken twice a year. (take it once and you must wait 90 days to take the test a second time)

4. Do I need reference letters, from whom and how many.

Reference letters are not part of the nursing program requirements.

Thank you for the information. It was extremely helpful. Good luck on your application process. I am hoping to apply for the next spring term. Did you by chance get any information on if and how the point system will change?

I am hoping to apply for the spring term and the information is greatly appreciated, but I hope they haven't changed the part about Microbiology. The previous packet said that a student could be currently enrolled in Micro and still be able to apply. I hope this hasn't changed since I specifically set my schedule for the fall to take Micro and I will have no more classes to take so if I have to have it completed before applying then I will have to wait the spring term and apply for the summer term :( However, I am very excited they changed the entrance exam to the HESI A2! The NAT test was a bit ridiculous to me.

Hey sunflower07, I haven't for the info yet but she said that she will email when she knows and when I do get it I'll post it on here for everyone's info ;)

Yea I don't know what the difference is from HESI A2 and the PSB-NAT but I'm happy that I know now that it changed... And can't wait to find out what the point system is... Hoping not that much of

it has changed and if it did I hope for the better

Ok Thanks OP. Please keep us informed.

I did take a look at the catalog on the FSCJ website for 2014-2015. It shows that Chemistry has been added as a prerequisite and Sociology is no longer required. I am wondering if Chemistry will be included in the point system now. I remember it was that way a while ago.

Judging by your email, it seems as if the nursing department does not have too much control over the prerequisites and general education requirements. I am guessing that is decided solely by the FSCJ Academic Advising department. I am assuming that’s why it is taking the nursing department so long to inform everyone regarding the final changes.

[h=2]Prerequisites[/h]

The following courses must be completed prior to admission to the nursing program. All general education courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better before the last term of the nursing program.

Yea the old catalog is what they are still going under until fall of 2015. That is what Ms. Cheryl told me. So you have to have everything except microbiology done before applying and you have to show proof of enrollment in micro. The HESI seems to be easier for me to study for so f at but we will see if I can apply it tomorrow when I take it for the first time!

Thanks for the updates on the changes! I'm in Chem now and Micro in the Fall with plans to apply for the Fall 2015 program (sounds so far away). Now that I know Chem points count I better tighten up!Have any of you done the CPR/BLS? I saw a past forum that mentioned St.V's does it for $25?

Kristin - I will be taking Micro in the fall as well. Who do you have? When are u planning to take your HESI?

Samantha-how was the HESI? What resources did you study from? Do you get the results immediately? Did you have enough time?

I would have to say the HESI was much easier in my opinion than the NAT. But everyone doesn't better on different tests. The reading and math parts are super easy...The two biology parts are much more difficult than the NAT in my opinion. I used HESIa2.org and quiz let to study for the test and it helped I just needed to brush up some more on my biology since I haven't had it in 8 years. You get your score for each part immediately after your done with each part then the cumulative score is when you are done. I am also taking micro in the fall with Katherine Rawlings at Kent campus. I've been told she is really good and she has good ratings.

Kristin - I will be taking Micro in the fall as well. Who do you have? When are u planning to take your HESI?

Danielle, I have Keysmu at North campus/hybrid. Hope I don't regret taking the Hybrid but it's all I could do with my schedule.

Planning to take the HESI late fall, further into micro. I bought the HESI admissions assessment exam review 3rd edition to study with.
