Take a look at the specific programs you're applying for. What they look at varies widely. I found that universities don't really care about Ws, some care more than others about repeated prereqs, universities care more than community colleges about overall GPA, etc. It varies widely, so it really pays to dig deep into the programs you're interested in.
Your TEAS score counts a lot, too. Make sure that you study hard and get the highest possible score your first time around. Some schools won't even look at your application if you're repeated the TEAS. Some will take your highest score, no matter how many times you've taken it. Some schools limit how many repeats you've had. There are all kinds of weird things with that, too. Do your research, and you'll find the answers. You can also call the admin for the programs with questions you can't find answers to on the websites (DON'T call with questions without reading every single page on the site first).
Hey there!
To increase your chances of getting into nursing school, I would suggest applying to several programs in your area! This may mean that you might have to take different entrance exams, for example, TEAS or HESI, NET. I think the most common test is the TEAS.
When I was applying to programs, I had to take the TEAS and HESI. It just depends on the school. Also, if you decide to apply to multiple schools then you make sure you pay close attention to the prerequisites. Some schools may require more prerequisites than the other. Again, it just depends on the school. If you worry about lack of work experience, have you looked into becoming a CNA? It will probably take about 1 month and it is pricey, but it is well worth it!

hello everyone,
i've been frequenting this site for a while now, especially when i start freaking myself out about certain impending academic doom and being a forever student, and i have to say this site has helped me out so much.
this is my first time posting, and i'm hoping someone will be able to help me out, as the counselors at my community college unfortunately do not seem qualified nor interested.
i'm looking to apply to lbcc and goldenwest adn programs and hopefully quality for the bsn track or apply to an adn-bsn program once i have finished.
with that being said my gpa is about a 3.0+ once my grades finalize for this semester, and my science gpa is also a 3.0.
this next semester i am taking a math class at UCLA extension and once i complete that i should receive my associates degree from Los Angeles Harbor College.
Now, i dont know what to do next, it seems that both lbcc and goldenwest are now only accepting applications once a year, and i need to take the teas test before applying, so that probably means i should wait until next year to apply, as i dont think i'll be ready to take it in a few weeks.
i dont know what steps i need to take next and i dont know if i am supposed to apply to the colleges before applying to the programs. i dont feel my grades are competitive enough and i also worry about lack of volunteer/work experience. i also have 2 W's in anatomy and physiology from my very first semester in college (fall 2009) when i was young and stupid and thought taking both science classes at the same time was an ingenious idea. on top of that, i retook physiology, received a 'D' and am now taking it again, this time i believe i'm earning an 'A'.
so i guess my question is, will this effect me? what is the best course of action to take?
when should i take the teas? i feel lost in a vast see of complicated nursing school procedures that keep changing and i dont know how to get on top of it all.
please help!
