Hi I just wanted to stpo in and see what you all had to say about Emergency nursing. I am starting my nursing program on January 12 2004 and I am really wanting to go toward emergency/trauma nursing. I am I guess what you would call an adreneline junkie and I think this would be a wonderful road for me to take.

What do you all think of this field? Is it what you thought it would be when you started? Would you change your field if you had the chance. Any imput would be great!

Thanks in advance

Hey, just wanted to let you know that ER is a great place to work as a nurse. I love it and love waking up to work every single day! I learn a ton every day. I just graduated 6/03 , passed NCLEX on 7/18/03 and started working on 8/4/03. I took ACLS in school, and i think that is the main reason i was hired, ( my boss did the same and admired it) Wow, ER is great!!!!! they DO hire new grads into the ER!!, so don't let anyone tell you different ( depending on hospital).

As far as my training, i had 3 months preceptorship with a seasoned ER Nurse who was completely awesome!! Even still the other RNs, LPNs and Medics, docs I work with are great, if i ever have a question i can surely count on them.

Every day is great, and I love working ER as a new grad!!!! I learn soooo much, way more than they "touched" on in school.

Best of luck in your program!!!! Dreams do come true, i promise!

I went straight to ED from nursing school and my program didn't even have an ER rotation. If I had to work a year in M/S I'd have been back on the medic bus in no time at all. ER is the only place to be. Welcome to the club!

You know, it you want to be an ED/Trauma nurse from the get-go, I suspect you'll get there. I could never go back "to the floor". I'd rather work at Walmart (I think). After all these years, I am constantly amazed at the # of nurses who say "I don't know who you do it". Well, I don't know how they don't.......but that's why they make Chevy's and Ford's. It's a good.......we all don't like the same thing!

I congratulate you on starting nursing school!!!!!! my mom "sorta" talked me into ER nursing.,,,,,, alll throughout school she told me I should be an ER nurse cuz she knows me best!!!!!

This wasn't ultimately suggested to me until I stared learning about cardiac stuff and vents and drips. and the traumas they have in ER., for some reason my mom knew me and knew what I would like.

My mom is a resp. therapist., so i guess she saw me there ( in ER)...... i've been working in ER for almost 1 year now and I cannot see me anywhere else ( ok maybe flight nursing., haha)

ER nursing is wonderful!!! I promise!!!!!

best thing i ever did!!! I promise!!!
