Not much chance of that. I think the health care industry in Pittsburgh depends on a continuous flow of new grads that will be trapped into three years of indentured servitude by a sign on bonus. In my circle of nursing friends and aquaintences, nobody has a kind word for UPMC.
I have a aquaintence who has worked same place as bedside nurse for 25 years. She was always a company person. What ever the company line was that was what came out of her mouth. It made me smile but I worried about her. She had a knee replacement and needs a little special consideration. She is quite distressed because suddenly she feels as if she is not wanted. Her own words to me "they have all these new grads and they want people like me who make top dollar out". Her words to me exactly. It really does appear that there is even less emphasis on retention in this area than ever and there was never very much.

To your friend, Oramar, who worked as a company nurse for 25 years, she didn't speak out against the changes that affected others and now that the change is affecting her "Oh, my. why me" Never agree to a change blindly, I support change if everyone benefits. I don't support change if only a specific group benefits. CEUs for RN's but not for Resp. Therapist,Physical/Occupational therapist etc/etc totally unfair
