Steps to Register for the NCLEX Exam in Hong Kong

Confirm eligibility

  • Before registering for the NCLEX, you need to be approved by the state board of nursing in the U.S. where you plan to become licensed. You must follow the requirements set by the state board where you want your license. Use the National Council for State Boards of Nursing to find the contact information for your chosen state.
  • Some states require international applicants to apply through CGFNS (Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools).
  • English proficiency. Most states require proof of English proficiency (e.g., TOEFL).
  • Submit an application for licensure by exam.

After confirming eligibility, apply to the state board of nursing. This process  involves submitting documents such as:

  • Your nursing school transcripts
  • Proof of your nursing education
  • Verification of your previous nursing licenses (if applicable)

Register with Pearson VUE for the NCLEX Exam
Pearson VUE is the official testing provider for the NCLEX exam. You can register online with them once you have received your Authorization to Test (ATT) from the state Board of Nursing.

  •  Visit the Pearson VUE website and create an account.
  • Choose your NCLEX exam type. Select the NCLEX-RN (for registered nurses) or NCLEX-PN (for practical nurses) based on your qualifications.
  • Find your testing center. Pearson VUE has test centers worldwide, including Hong Kong. You can search for the test center locations on their website.

Pay the Exam Fee
The NCLEX exam fee is typically $200 (check the Pearson VUE website for up-to-date information). Payment can be made during the registration process using a credit card.

Receive Your Authorization to Test (ATT)
Once the state board processes and approves your application, you will receive your Authorization to Test (ATT). This document allows you to schedule your exam.
Schedule Your Exam with Pearson VUE

You can now schedule your NCLEX exam using the ATT at a Pearson VUE test center.

Prepare for the NCLEX Exam

  • Study resources. You can use study guides, practice tests, and review courses (such as Kaplan, UWorld, or NCLEX practice questions) to prepare for the NCLEX.
  • Understand the NCLEX format. The NCLEX uses Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT), which adapts to your performance as you take the exam.

Take the NCLEX Exam
On the scheduled day of the exam, ensure you bring:

  • Your ATT from the state board
  • A valid, government-issued photo ID
  • Any other documents required by Pearson VUE

Receive Your Results
The state board of nursing will send your official results.

Essential Things to Keep in Mind

The NCLEX exam is conducted in English, so you must have a strong understanding of English to complete the exam.

Time zones. Since you are located in Hong Kong, remember the time zone difference for scheduling and communication with the state board and Pearson VUE.

Testing centers. Ensure the Pearson VUE test center in Hong Kong is available for your exam date. Sometimes, testing centers may have limited availability, so booking in advance is good.
