Hong Kong Nurses Please Help Me With This

I am a newly registered nurse in the Philippines. Can I apply in any hospitals in Hong Kong? If not, how can I get any job there related to my field? I already have a place to stay there and found an agency who will process my working visa in case I find a job. please I do really need your advice in order for me to have a job in Hong Kong.

hi chokyali.. can you speak cantonese? I read that they accommodate the applicant for 1 - 2 weeks.. It happens to you? Is year of working experience prerequisite with them?

I don't speak cantonese nor mandarin...I was just searching for a nursing job for HK and I saw the ad from hospital authority recruiting for a contract nurse...I submitted the form I downloaded from their site and they already send me a notice advising me that they receive my application. I'm not sure if having experience is required but I have 1.2years OR experience

hi, im also done with the written exam in hongkong but also failed in practical. i have plans of retaking again, how about you? hpw's your application in Hospital authority?

I have plans of retaking the exam but i'm not sure...I'm still waiting for HA's 2nd reply...how about are you going to rtake it this january?

Hi, i am a filipina RN. I have a resident hk fiance, we are about to get married this year. My question is that, if i became a hk resident, do i still need to get a hk board exam to qualify or to get a job there? Isn't my phil. license enough? ...tnx...

You will still need to meet requirements. Can not see how making you a resident would change that

@mybabydar you can work as an assistant nurse but not an RN you still need to meet the requirements which is passing the written and practical part of the exam... Good luck

hi gizgurl,I'm a Filipina registered nurse in Hong Kong and also a HK resident, I pass both the written & practical exam in first take, I know it's a hard exam, I use the NCLEX book to prepare for the written exam. Anyone is allowed to take the Nursing exam in HK, you don't need to be a HK resident. Job options maybe limited for you due to the following reason. 1. You need to be an RN Nurse first 2. You need to be a HK resident 3.You need to speak cantonese 4.You need to have experience.

Having said that it's not totally impossible, if you are up to the challenge.

Below are tips I can offer you:

1. Take the R.N. exam in HK, (that will give you an edge to other foreign nurse)- registration deadline is every november, your chances to get a job & visa sponsor is higher if your an RN.

2. try to get some working experience in the philippines, obstetric experience is in high demand here, choose a field that have less interaction to patient (communication wise, since you can't speak cantonese) eg, renal dialysis (pay is really good), endoscopy, radiology,surgery.

3. I suggest you get some experience in more than one field eg 6 months surgery 6 months radiology so you have more options

job wise.

4.Clinic Nurse is another option for you ( but quite hard to get a job if your not an RN & non HK resident)

5.Take Master's degree or Phd degree in research and education (so you can work in the university)

6. certification on First Aid and basic life support & venepuncture would give you an added edge.

hi misao!.. it's great to hear that someone passed the exam for the first time... im also a filipina.. im planning to take the exam next year... i just wanna ask about practical exam. i heard it's quite difficult... can u please share any review materials for that... how's the set up for the exam?...i hope u could enlighten me.. thank u and Godbless.. :)
