I have just started a new job in home health. I have been working in med/surg for the last 4 years at a hospital. I would appreciate any tips as far as dealing with patients, their homes ?, families, charting, OASIS. Scheduling...., it is all a bit much right now!!!
Thanks! ?⚕️

I've asked to have your post moved to AN's Home Health forum:

See the previous advice there...spend an hour to get your feet wet in this specialty.
Thanks!

Having been in home care for 5 years I feel charting is the most challenging. I always practice and teach chart before going home, stop at a coffee house or library. Once you take work home with you it will build up. As far as families I always ask at start of care how often they want to be contacted or would they prefer a text when I visit.

I have been in home health for several years, and each year there are more requirements leading to increased documentation, especially with OASIS.
To be more efficient with my time, I call patients the night before and plan for the next day. I try to work from the furthest appointment to the closest appointment, so I end up near my home at the end of the day. Since I use Kinnser / WellSky, I have quite a few macros that check fill in and check off the routine boxes, such as "Are they homebound?" (Well, yes.) If used responsibly and conservatively, a macro can help prevent costly, time-consuming errors in charting. Plus, it works with any web-based form, so there are many areas it can save time and energy when filling out routine, repeated information.
Check out "kinnser documentation automation" on Youtube.
