Home Health Nursing Pay?

I was told by a few nurses here in St. Louis that they made $45 per visit (
RN
).

I have always been interested in community based work and would love to do this but want to make sure it is profitable. Any feedback? Are there usually enough patients/visits to make a decent living?

It's really does vary by where you live, what your skill set is, and what kind of home care you want to do.

I am open to working in general med, psych, etc... I live in St. Louis but might relocate to So Cal. I have experience in the ER and psych.

Okay, but do you want to do intermittent skilled visits seeing multiple patients in a day (generally Medicare) or shift work spending 4-12 hours with one patient (generally Medicaid)? Do some searching in the home health forum and get a feel for the difference. Many nurses work prn for multiple agencies so they can pick and choose their cases. The downside is that your agencies also pick and choose which prn nurses they will use and you don't get benefits such as sick time, PTO time, or health insurance.

Intermittent skilled visits seeing multiple patients in a day (as long as I can get enough patients in a day to make a decent living).
