Home Health Nurse hours paid

Hello Everyone.

I am new here and to HH. The rate offered is US$31/hour for rn doing assessments and paperworks. My question is... when does the time start? From the time you arrive at the patient's house until you finish the paperworks (because I was thinking of doing the finalizing at home)? As for mileage reimbursement, do you always start from the office's address or your home to the first patient and then calculate from that patient's home to the next?

The agency only has hard copy forms to fill out, no software program (I'm a faster typist than physically writing down); is there a way I can do this using a laptop (even if I'm using my own)?

Any input, reply, comments or suggestions will be much appreciated :)

I have worked per hour in home care and it worked pretty well. Although I was only paid $29.87 per hour :). The time starts when you visit your first patient, or start working from home (you'll have to check with your management but usually if you do any work at home you will get paid for that time). If you go to the office first then mileage is counted as the office to the first patient. If you go from home to the patients house then you don't count that. Basically, you can't count your mileage to and from your work. I found it works the best to schedule your first visit and last visit close to home so that you can get paid for the most mileage. I was lucky to have a lab about 3 miles from my home so I could count mileage all the way to the lab (if I had labs to drop off). As far as documentation, if the agency doesn't use computers then you will have to write it all by hand. MOST agencies will be switching over eventually because of billing, not to make the nurses happy. You will find yourself writing the same phrase a lot once you get going so it will get easier. I have been in home care in metro Detroit for 11 years and have worked at various different agencies. If you have any other questions, I'd be glad to answer them.

I'm sure I will be asking you questions in the future as I go along. This is my first RN job and home health is something I know I can do based on the workload and flexibility being a Mom to three kids, one of whom is a with cerebral palsy. With 11 years under your belt, I can look up to you .

I have a 4yr old with autism and two other children asking me to be home mre often, so i am leaning towards home health. i feel hh has more flexibility.
