Not at all. I am also a new grad who just got hired from as a home health nurse and my starting salary is $72,000. I know of one place that starts at $75,000. I do live in New York though. If you are in the part of Virginia that's near Washington, DC, like the Falls Church, Alexandria area etc. that's certainly not too much.
Thanks for the reply! I am in Hampton Roads, Virginia and the pay is not great here. I did the math and with this particular co. they are willing to pay tops around $50,000. That's it. I don't think many people will take it for that. Your pay is very good, but you live in NY and cost of living is higher there.
PS- my Dad is from NYC. Not sure where in NY you are from. Also... Robert Pattinson is in NYC filming a new movie. He was in Twilight.... like him and liked Twilight. :redpinkhe I wish I was in NY... more my style then VA.
Well take care and thanks for the reply back!! :typing

I actually started Nursing years ago at Hampton University. I'm a little familiar with the area. Originally I'm from DC. In New York it's common to see shows filming. If you decide you want to come this way let me know. We are having a challenging time for new grads getting work, but you can always put in a resume at the Home Health Agency I just got hired by. You would be more than welcome.

Hello Whimisical..i also lie in NY and interested in getting into home health care...just wanted to know which agency you recomend?
@ Epona
Do you mind sharing which home health agency you will be working for? I will be relocating to the Hampton Roads area from Ohio at some point this summer. I'll have about 6 months experience in nursing at that point, but most of the hospitals that I've gotten in touch with want me to have at least a year so I'm trying to look into other options so I'm wanting to explore home health and LTC.
Thanks!

Good evening everyone! I had a quick question. There is a home health care agency who is interested in hiring me. I am a new grad. and on the application it asks WHAT IS THE MINIMUM YOU WILL ACCEPT and the MAXIMUM you will accept as far as salary. I do not know that much about home health. I did a check on salary.com and the average looks to be around $60,000. What is the going rate in Virginia?? 60,000 seems like an awful lot to ask for as a new grad. That is the current average right now according to salary.com. Is that too much to ask for as a new grad.??
