Looking for some insight into working at a home care agency.
If anyone has worked or does work doing home care, I would appreciate your input!
What are your hours like? What do you do on a typical shift?

home care becomes more demanding to work than it used to, typical 4-5 patients/home visit in the morning, then you write report when back to office . Always apply your critical thinking skills since there are fewer resources in the community or when nurses visits clients at their homes.
Expect to know basic wound care, palliative care ( I.e. end-of-life care), these two are the major aspects why patients are seen in the community.
As new grad or nurses who have not worked on medicine floor first, home care might be challenge, but everyone adapts to new environment differently.
Last, you drive your own car, partial mileage is reimbursed.

I work a dual role in both community health and home care up north. My home care role involves supervising HCA/ home support workers and carrying out typical home care nursing activities: case management, wound care, med administration, environmental health and home assessments in collaboration with EHOs or the housing dept in our community. Sometimes I also attend Dr. Appts and tele-health meetings (with specialists) with my clients, but not frequently.
