Anyone currently attending or trying to get in to the program? PN or RN? I just went to the info session and was curious if there's anyone else out there?:nurse:

Hi, I just got accepted to the RN program to start Fall 2011

Wow congrats! Could I ask you what your pre req grades were? Or if you had health care experience? Just trying to make my application strong for when I do apply. Thanks and good luck!

Sure! Also just so you know I applied and got accepted to GCC and STCC. I think it is definitely worth applying to more than just one school because the requirements are very similar and the programs are so competitive. However I was rejected from HCC's LPN program, which I also applied for. I found this odd because I was accepted into all the RN programs (maybe the LPN had an additional requirement I overlooked or something).

Anyway I had very good marks. I had all As in my 10 prerequisite classes and I have a BS in Biology from UMass. I know that they give some credit when they are going over applications for previous degrees. I have NO healthcare experience, but I know that they take health care experience into account when they are accepting people.

My advice to you would be to do AS WELL AS POSSIBLE in your prereqs. Basically HCC uses a point system to accept students. An A is worth so many points, B so many, and a C so many. More points are alloted to science courses (micro and A and P). You get points for previous degrees and health care experience, too. From what I understand, they just add up the points and the students with the most points get it.

When I was taking my prereqs I wanted to be sure that I would be accepted because I didn't want to waste my time with a year of school and then not get in. So I basically considered an A passing for myself and anything below that failing. If the applicant pool is really competitive Bs and Cs would most likely keep you out of the program.

Anyway I hope this was helpful! Let me know if you have any more questions about the application process or the prerequisites! Good luck!

Yes this info has been very helpful! I sent you a friend request maybe we can exchange e-mails or something? Anyways thanks a lot for your reply to the post! :)

I am also in pre-req classes for nursing. I start in Fall 2011. It is so competitive. The advisor was kind enough to tell me I had zero chance of getting in unless I had all pre-req done and all with A's prior to application. I hope she was wrong. I will have 6 complete and be enrolled in the others by the time of application. Have to be realistic....but a little hopeful

did you speak to ******? she was the one i talked to. she said it is super competative. in english, sociology, ettc i have B's or B+'s. I'm taking nutrition and psych online now and am doing well. I expect an A in nutrition and a high B in psych. What worries me is the fall semester. I'm taking A and P and also intermediater algebra. two subjects that dont click for me without studying HARD. whats ur schedule like? teachers? etc

I went to the info session and did ask a few questions of Kelly. When i told the advisor that ***** said you don't need all your pre-req's to get in she laughed and said **** was just being nice. She said that you either have to be fresh out of high school with an amazing GPA or enrolled in HCC with all A's and all pre-req's done. I am enrolled in Psy 110, Eng 101, Biology Today 103 and Math 095. All my classes are online except Bio is Brick and Click. I am hoping to retest the placement test and drop math.

Not all of my pre reqs are A's. :( B and B+'s. I hope there's still a chance for me. Maybe that advisor you spoke with could have some advice for me. I don't want to waste all this time and money if I have no chance. Could u give me her name? you can send me a private message if you want to keep her info private.

Sorry, will leave all names out in the future. I did leave out the name of my dream crusher but I should have been more careful.

Oh well now we know not to discuss names for the future. If u want to private message me and talk more feel free! :)

can't private message yet. I guess I am too new. I am going next week to try to retake my math placement test. I did excellent on the English and Arith. but only got a 58 on the Algebra. But not too bad, I haven't had those classes in 20 years. I have been studying hard and hope to do well. Then I can drop Math 095 and take a pre-nursing class. Between the advisor and a student I know at the school the info is scary. My friend had all the pre-req's done with great grades. She did not attend the information session. She said it didn't used to be required ??? But I guess she was told they threw her application out after they saw she didn't go to meeting and she has to wait another year to apply.
