Nursing Students School Programs

Anyone accepted for the Spring '18 start, for the second degree BSN program? I was hoping to connect with some future classmates through this! I got the invitation for orientation today, so things are becoming real. Hopefully someone is out there! haha.

No problem! It's not the most convenient schedule, but we have quite a few people in our class with kids and they all seem to manage. It's not easy by any means, but it is only 14 Months, so that's the upside! I give all the moms and dads soooo much credit.

Hi everyone, I am in the January group, does anyone have a recommendation of where to live during the program (or anyone looking for a roommate?) Thank you!!

Hi Kelly,

I see that you've already started the program at HFU and I wanted to know if you could give an update on how things are going so far. I also read a couple of reviews that HFU's grading scale is very difficult, could you give us some insight on that ? What's a passing grade ? If you fail a class are you automatically out of the program ? I've read a lot of mixed reviews on the program and I was hoping to get some insight on someone who is actually in the program before I make a final decision on which school I will be attneding.

Thank you !

I really enjoy the program. I feel the professors and clinical instructors are great and have given us so much knowledge already. It's a lot of info in a condensed time so you just have to know your study styles and to stay focused. You have to be flexible as your schedule will change every eight weeks.

As for the grading, I wouldn't say it's "difficult." Basically all nursing programs have moved into a minimum of 73 to pass, and we're 77 to pass, which I know is what most schools are raising their minimum grade to. The grading can be frustrating, i.e. an "A" is 94-100. So if you get a 93, that's a B+. But honestly with nursing jobs, no one cares what your GPA is.

Pass rates for NCLEX have been VERY high for their accelerated programs. I've heard about other programs as well and I feel ours is still the best in the area, especially for the price point. I do know some programs have super large class sizes, our class is about 34 people and we're with the same class the entire program.

Also, I don't believe you are out of the program if you fail one class. I think if you fail, you'd get placed with the next cohort (which is about fourth months after where you'd be). If you fail again, then you're out of the program. I THINK that's the policy. I've been doing really well so I'm hoping I'll never have to worry about that.

OMG, you're amazing. Thank you so much for your quick response. I think that you've confirmed my decision. I've also seen positive reviews such as the professors being caring and wanting everyone to succeed and I love the intimate classroom setting. I was also accepted to Gwynedd Mercy's ABSN program but they're 20k more than HFU. Thanks again for your help.

The professors are very caring. I really do love the program. I heard good things about Gwenydd but I also heard their NCLEX rates weren't that great. HFU reformed the program to ensure better stats and it's been successful for several cohorts now. Congrats to you and good luck in school!

Hi, I was accepted to spring 2019. I was wondering does anyone know when classes start?

I don't know for sure, but I started Spring 2018 and we started like the first week of January. It's typically when the school goes back in after the holiday break. You'll get a lot of info in your orientation :)

Hi kellyfuturebsn,

Do we need immunizations before we start? And how many classes do you take per semester (about 4 or 5)? Thank you!

Sorry it took me so long to reply. Your first semester will be three classes with two days of lab, so you'll be in classes probably 4 days a week. Then you move on to two days of lecture, and one or two clinical days a week. And you will need immunizations before you start clinical, which is your second "semester." You'll get all the information on that at your orientation - you'll have more than enough time to get it all done í ½í¸Š good luck to you!
