Holme LPN Program

U.S.A. Mississippi

I was just wondering if anyone knows if everyone that meets the minimum criteria gets to take the TABE test at Holmes? I have an 18 on my ACT which was taken before 1989 so it converts to a 20 on current testing scale. I have a 3.75 GPA at Holmes, but only a 3.25 overall if you include all college coursework. I have taken all pre reqs for the ADN except Micro and Speech. I applied for the evening/weekend ADN program, but was rejected. I am hoping to have a better chance of getting into the LPN program. I really want to ace the TABE test, but am wondering if I will even be picked to take it. I am hoping someone knows how the selection to take the test goes. Any help would be great!:clown:

I am currently in the pn program at the goodman campus and they did not have us take the tabe test it was the compass. If you were accepted you received your letter about 2 weeks later. Hope this helps

I'm sorry. I am so new at this. I had read an earlier post about someone taking the TABE test for Holmes PN. Is there a difference? I looked over a link that was posted with example questions for the TABE test so I was wondering if the Compass is basically the same types of questions. Is it just basic Math and English? Did you have to write an essay? Thanks for any insight you can give me.

Oh its no problem. Yes its basically the same thing, just basic math and english with some reading comp. No we didn't have to write an essay. I wouldn't stress out too much about it because its really not that bad. If you scored good on your act this will be no problem.

I am also applying for Holmes and Hinds lpn program with an 18 ACT but u have a better gpa than I do I am so hoping to get into there program I took the Net test today for Hinds and I think I did very well so if Holmes doesnt accept me I have a chance at Hinds.

Do you know if everyone that met the min. requirements got to take the test or if only a select group? How do you like it so far? I hope I get in. I have a long time to wait though because applications just started. Do you have a lot of people in your classes that had EMT or CNA certification first? I am worried :uhoh3: that they choose those people first. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of ACT/GPA did you have? Thanks for you help and good luck.

Im not in the program yet I just applied this month on the 1st. I had an 18 on the ACT and my gpa is a 2.23 ;( but I am taking another class at the present time to improve my gpa. I dont think everyone gets to take the test only the ones who are accepted.. Have you tried applying at Hinds also?

Everyone that applies has to take the entrance exam and then they will base their decision on that test along with any other classes etc... there is bout 5 people in the class that are cna's including me. I think it more depends on what academic classes you take along with your act. how they base their decision. Yes I am enjoying it now its alot of work and they keep us very busy but they are great teachers. I have 2 friends that go to hinds and both failed body structure and complained alot about the hinds campus and how the teachers are, so I feel blesses to have such great teachers. Oh any my act was a 19 and I had a 3.8 gpa.

Thanks so much for the replies. I have already taken A&P 1, A&P 2, Nutrition, Comp 1, Comp 2, Algebra, Physical Science, Art and several History classes. I don't have Micro or a Gen Bio class though. I hope that I have a good shot, but you never know.

Divine87 maybe we can support each other through the long wait. I live too far away from Hinds to apply there. I grew up around that area and even graduated from Hinds from a technical program, but it was not health related. I always heard good things about their programs back then, but have heard some bad things on this board. Good luck either way you decide.

Cannjess78 thanks so much for your help. I know it sounds crazy, but I am going to really study for the test so I can ace it. My nerves always get the best of me so I want to be prepared. Hopefully if I do really well on the test they will accept me.

Jg24 that would be very good for us to be each others support system.. I have also taken Human A&P 1&2, human growth and development, nutrition Microbiology, public speaking, and a few more classes.. I am praying to get in because I am number 162 on the waiting list for Hinds and to be honest Hinds is my last choice of schools that I want to attend because of all the negative feedback I have been hearing about the instructors who are not helpful at all..

Divine87 you have an 18 on the ACT? Was that on the old ACT ( before 89) or the new ACT? I had an 18 on the old ACT which is a 20 on the new ACT. I think that is pretty good since they only require a 12 on the old ACT. I think your ACT score will be competitive also. I read on another post that you were worried that it wouldn't be high enough. I give up guessing how Holmes actually does things. I applied for the ADN evening/weekend and was rejected. I was only lacking 3 pre reqs and had the 3.75 GPA. Who knows?

JG24 I had an 18 on the new ACT that was my first try straight out of high school in 2006. I have been stressed out trying to figure out what more I can do to get into the lpn program I guess I will just sit back and wait and see what happens.. Do you know any websites to practice for the compass test?
