Nurses General Nursing

Hello to all..

Here is my situation. I have been an LPN/LVN since 2000, licensed both in Texas and Arkansas. Due to various things that happened early in my career in Arkansas, I had a very difficult time obtaining my license in TX. During the time period that I was trying to obtain my license, I worked as a computer assembler contractor for Hewlett-Packard. I have my license in TX but am finding it very difficult to find a nursing job (and am currently unemployed). I have mainly been applying to hospitals, since I have been told in interviews that I would need to work with a preceptor, but none are willing to take the time to even consider me for a position within their company.

I wonder..am I not presenting myself very well or do most employers just don't want to be bothered with someone that has had action taken against their nursing license (mine was a letter of reprimand and I complied with all the terms)?

Also, I have spent a lot of time reading the boards on Operating Room Nursing (have considered the specialty from the first day of clinical rotation) and wondering if OR nursing would be something that I could even consider after what has happened.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you been given the opportunity to explain what happened in AR? It would help to know what the infraction was, but don't say if you're not comfortable. If it has to do with pt safety, that could be a biggie. Who says you have to work with a preceptor, the state? SNF's have people who could act as preceptors.
