hit-and-run nursing n. an aspect of managed health care in which nurses attend to a greater number of patients and attempt to speed those patients through the system by performing tasks--such as drawing blood--previously assigned to specialists.

street nurse n. a nurse who treats homeless people, prostitutes, drug users, and other denizens of the street.

sicker and quicker adj. describes a hospital discharge in which a patient is released before having completely recovered. also: sicker,quicker.

wallet biopsy (wawl.ut by.awp.see) n. the determination of a person's financial status or health insurance coverage before admitting that person to a hospital or before performing an expensive procedure.

hurry sickness n. a malaise where a person feels chronically short of time, and so tends to perform every task faster and to get flustered when encountering any kind of delay.
