History/Purpose of Hesi?

Posted

What year did US technical colleges start requiring a Teas or Hesi Test to enter into an LPN or RN Program? Why? There are millions of seasoned Nurses in America who have saved lives on a weekly basis. How does the Teas and Hesi help students who received A or B grades in both Anatomy & Physiology Classes (and all other prerequisite classes) become a better Nurse that can save lives? What is the difference between Nurses who did not take a Teas or Hesi and Nurses who have taken the Teas or Hesi?Does anyone have an answer besides an Educational Institution getting more money from its students?

Considering how many are applying to nursing school vs how many open seats there are, the schools had to find a way to sort out applicants. This was one of them, and isn't much different than employers who require a BSN- it filters the number applications.

HESI exams tend to correlate with NCLEX passing rates and nursing school GPAs, from the research that I've seen, hence its importance. To be quite frank, HESI A2 is an incredibly simple exam compared to anything you'd face in nursing school. Students that aren't cut out for the entrance exam are, typically, not cut out for nursing school either.
