hillsborough community college,Spring 2019

Published

Hello, everyone. I was just curious if there is anyone else planning on applying for the 2019 spring semester at Hillsborough community college. I am taking my last prerequisite right now,and am planning on applying.

Does anyone know if they do grade forgiveness? For example I've taken Anatomy and physiology twice and got a higher score the second time. Will they average the 2 scores or take the higher of the 2?

Hi, No they do not. They only look at first attempt for admission and calculating GPA. They do not take second attempt and they do not average the two grades unfortunately.

I retook A&P at a different school and they took the higher grade. They don't allow retakes at HCC but if you take it at a different school they will take the higher grade

Sorry thats not accurate. They will only take first attempt no matter where you took it.

I was told otherwise by the nursing advisor at HCC and when you evaluate your degree online. My second attempt is used and it says my first is replaced.

I'm not sure if maybe things have changed. I hope so. Because I talked to someone maybe 2weeks ago about it and they told me that HCC will take the higher attemp. I hope so for my sake

There seems to be some questions about grades and GPA so i want to help out best as I can.

GPA AND GRADE ATTEMPTS

As far as calculating prerequisite GPA for admissions purposes into HCC nursing program the will ONLY look at the first attempt grade. If you take a class and get a C and retake it and get an A they will only use the C they will not consider the second grade nor will they average the two.

The only prereq class you have an opportunity in redeeming your grade is in math. They want you to have college algebra OR any higher level math. So if you get a C in college algebra there is no point in retaking it. You can however take precalc or calc 1 and get an A in that class. HCC will take the the BEST first attempt grade in any math class that is MAC1140 or higher.

so If you get a C in college algebra, A in precalc and a B in calc 1. HCC will take the A in precalc as it is your highest grade first attempt math.

Well what about transfer grades from other universities?

--- HCC will still only take the first attempt grade unless that university or school did grade forgiveness where the first attempt is not on the transcript.

TEAS SCORE:

HCC does not look at the score you recieved on your teas as a ranking factor. It is strictly GPA. However you do have to pass with a 60 or better to be eligible to apply. So for example:

Student A = 3.8 gpa 64% teas score

Student B = 3.5 gpa 92% teas score

student A will have a higher change and probability of getting accepted.

CUT OFF GPA AND HOW THEY CHOOSE WHO GETS IN!!!!!

HCC will look at all the applicants and immediately take out who does not have a 2.8 and a 60 on the teas.

There are 140 spots available, on average they get about 400 applicants per term.

they will take all the applications and order them from highest GPA to lowest GPA. Then they pick the 140 applicants with the highest GPA. In the event of a tie for the last spot they will look at the overall GPA of the student and NOT the teas score.

I got all this information from the advisers and director. It is also outlined on the website somewhere (but who reads that LOL)

HERE is my situation

mac1140 transfer from FSU = C

enc1101 transfer from FSU = C

BSC2085 HCC = A

BSC 2085 Lab HCC =A

BSC2085 HCC = A

BSC 2085 Lab HCC =A

Micro Bio HCC = A

Micro Bio Lab HCC = A

Sociology HCC = A

teas 85.3 (attempt 1)

My perquisite GPA is a 3.43 because of my 2 c's (i was not focused as a freshman back then) . I went ahead and applied Spring 2019 However if I do not get in I am currently taking Pre Calc which I am averaging an A. I will then reapply. Once they swap out the C in algebra for my A in precalc My prerequisite gpa will then be a 3.71 a way better and much more competitive GPA for the program

I called today and it looks like the cut off for this term will be around a 3.5 which does not include me but I am still hopeful!

I hope this was helpful

Best of Luck to everyone!!!!!!!!! I will stay in touch to let you guys know how my progress is going. Do the same please.

Peace and happiness... Nikki

Hello! Thank you so much for informing us. so you called and they told you that it looks like the GPA cut off will be about a 3.5 for the spring 2019 term? Do you know how being an alternate works?

If I had to guess Sorii16 I would say you will probably be starting nursing school at HCC this spring. Technically with your GPA, you would have gotten in for the fall cohort as well I think.

You think so? I'm so anxious to know, the wait is killing me. Lol but thank you for being positive! Did you apply for the Spring 2018 term as well? What's your pre req GPA?

Hopefully so! HCC is a great nursing program from what I understand and the nurses who will be your instructors are some of the best.

What other schools did you apply to?
