High School Student wanting to be a nurse!

Published

Hello there :D

I am a Junior in high school in NY.

I've always wanted to be a RN nurse and I am sure I will. I volunteer in hospital for over 2 years. My averages in school: Freshman year: 3.3 ; Sophomore Year: 3.1 ; Junior year : I'm not sure yet, but my average is high 80s and 90s so I assume my gpa will be 3.5 - 3.6 ish.

I was wondering what colleges I should go for?

And I also want a Bachelors Degree for Nursing, and not the Associates.

When I apply to colleges do I have to apply to the school and then apply for the nursing program? I was thinking of Stony Brook, Molloy College, Rutgers, BingU, or Buffalo.

Are these schools good? And how do you apply for nursing programs?

How many years does it take for me to become a Registered Nurse?

Can you please explain everything?

Thank you so much. :)

DO IT! I was a SR in high school when i got my CNA. Now I'm 20 & just passed my NCLEX-PN. RN HERE I COME!! back to topic.. always remember.... "Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up."

Haha, thanks! It's just I'm scared I won't get in :( My SAT's scores are just avg I guess, but I'm trying my best to improve.

Btw, what is a CNA?

Sorry the last line of your post was sort of begging for that movie quote.

Try visiting the website of the schools you are considering attending. Most of the questions you asked are answered there. Also consider physically visiting these schools to get a sense of campus life.

@ tpanimeen if you get into a bsn program thats great, but don't discount the adn programs along the way. i already gotten my bachelor's degree in social work (bsw) at rutgers university (would have gotten my bsn...in which i initially got accepted for but i had to handle some family issues) and now going back to school for my assoicates degree in nursing (adn). there are so many advantages in the adn programs then i lot of people may consider such as becoming a rn sooner and spending a lot less money on school. you also can transfer right into an bsn programs right after you finish with your adn which are called rn to bsn programs and still save a lot of money or you can even go into a rn to msn (master level nurse) in which they grant you a bsn in the process! i mean all power to you and i wish you the best of luck in any program you choose, but if i could go back and choose a program when i was in high school i would definetly choose the adn and saved a lot of time and money!

ps to answer some of your questions:

they all sound like great schools especially rutgers!!!...lol but i would do my research to be sure if i like them personally

it takes about 2-3 years to in the adn program and 4-5 years in the bsn program to become the same thing a rn

applying takes about a year to complete because you have to consider all those hopeful's also wanting to be a nurse...and they're not just high school students, some of them are college students waiting to declare or change their major, and also working adults wanting to go back to school.

and a cna is a certified nursing assistant

again good luck, do your research and choose a program and school that fits your needs...

I think those schools are great. If I were you I would choose whichever one of those are in my state because nursing education is the same everywhere so you might as well save your money by staying in-state.
