Does anyone in this group teach any of the high school Health Science classes? I am interested in any experiences anyone might have to share.
I am currently a school nurse, and just started an online alternative certification program to teach high school classes. I taught middle school before I went to nursing school, so the public school system is my comfort zone. I'd love to get my MSN and teach nursing school, but with a child starting college in three years, I just don't have the funds or time to go back to school right now.

Hey!
This is my 2nd year as a high school health science teacher. I am not in a career center as some teachers are. My school is a comprehensive high school. We certify in CPR and seniors have clinical days to sit for their CNA exam. Thus far, it has been a rewarding experience.
There is an open position at my son's high school, and I just applied for it. I hope I at least get an interview; I'm not sure how many applicants there are for the position. It seems to be a pretty specialized certification.

I teach High school CNA classes. I have a BSN, and took Train the Trainer course to be qualified to teach. We have class at the local college early in the morning, we use the nursing lab, and I go to clinicals with them at the local hospital LTC and extended care. This is my second year. I am very very very much wanting to connect with other teachers. Are there any google groups? I am really trying to keep them interested and it is hard! I use power points and lots of hands on, I always bring stuff into class and anything I can think of I use it to keep them going. Recently I am researching a lot on flipping the classroom. It seems like the kids get harder and harder to reign in their attention. Cell phones go into a basket in the beginning of class until class is over.

Hello, I just took a leap of faith & applied for this type of job. It is at Career/Technical school in a neighboring school district. I'm very excited and I hope I get the position. I love to teach people things & have always been the "unofficial" trainer at almost every job I've ever had.
I was concerned at first because it is high school kids, but they WANT to be there so I think it will be ok. I have been a school nurse for 5 years, elementary, & I love it but I think this would be a great change.
Fingers crossed.
Good luck on your possible future job!!
