Hi, new to allnurses

Hi, just joined this group. Need some one to talk to, ex-military and finding it hard to adjust to civilian nursing. Currently in home health care nursing, hate it. ( per my commanding officer in the military, Dr. X, do not go in ER (have PSTD from military situations) do something else. I am depressed, I do not enjoy this job - travelling all over the county, some very needy/demanding/sometimes nasty personalities, non-compliant with medications/treatment. Thank God for the patients that do want to get well and that I do respect. Due to amount of travel time I come home every night ( like many other nurses) and have to put visits in the computer (no life anymore), it takes hours. I dont get this. Am used to younger, healthier population even though severely injured wanted to get better and did, within their realm. Have friends in ER's and other units in hospitals and none of them are happy; same story all the time, gossip, backstabbing, etc, ect, and who have not one good thing to tell in terms of team work. Would like some input as I am very disillusioned at this point. What is so diffferent in civilan sector??? We had great team work and comradere in the military. I would value some input here. My goal is to be part time paramedic ( I miss being out in the field, and emergency procedures) and part time ER. I want to just go to work do my job and come home feeling I gave my best that day; I dont want to get involved with gossip or anything.

:spnngwlcm: If you just want to work and to avoid gossip, you may find a little difficulty in some workplaces. Actually, home health is one of the better venues for avoiding workplace problems. If you want to get away from all that travel and paperwork at night, you should get into shift work. One client, one shift, one nurses note, that's it. Less stressful. And you can look for a client that is compatible. Good luck for your plans to go to the ER and to work in the field. That sounds as if it is the plan that may make you happy.
