Okay my question is I am currently presiding in San Antonio, TX and my husband in about to start medical school and I was wondering if you knew what states you could move to that you would not have to llicense again. I hope I am making sense I really cant remember what it is called but I remember my teacher in first semester talking about a clause that you could move to different states and did not have to relicense. All feedback is appreciated.
Thanks

You'd just have to check the nurse practice acts of the states you are interested in moving to.
where do you find the website for that? I am clueless on where to start
I just found this, there are links to the nurse practice acts of all 50 states. I hope it helps.

Do an internet search (board of nursing and the state). the term you are looking for is reciprocity.
I found it but it is called Licensure Act. Thanks for the help everyone. If anyone want to know the list I will gladly share it. Thanks

go to http://www.ncsbn.org for a list of all state boards of nursing.
Texas is a Compact state. If you hold a TX license you can work in other compact states with that license until you become a permanent resident in the other state. You pay for one licensure that covers all the Compact states (each BON has a list).
All states are reciprocal, which means you do not have to re-take Board Exams (NCLEX). HOWEVER, each state has own requirements, so you need to contact the BON of the states to which you might be moving.
Good luck.

I am from WV and am getting licensed in OH, too. I emailed the OH nursing board and they sent me a packet. I had a lot of papers to fill out, get fingerprinted to send for a background check, get transcripts from school, etc. It cost me over $150, but will be worth it when I get a job in OH. There's no jobs in WV in my area, but across the river in OH, there are some good hospitals to work at.
I don't really know if there are any states that would accept your RN license from another state.
Good luck,

You don't have to belong to a compact state to work in others. All you would have to do is apply for licensure in a new state if it isn't a compact state. You pay your fee and wait for your license. You do not have to retake the NCLEX every time you move, no matter which state it is.
thanks everyone I was a little worried I had to retest everytime.
