hi eveyone! I just graduated from a practical nursing program in Dec. 2005. I have yet to take my NCLEX (the end of March 2006) and I decided to move to a different state where I don't know anyone. I feel so lost and question every decision I've made in the past year. I guess I needed to learn about other nurses and their experiences, so I joined here.
Does anyone have any advice to an inexperienced GPN? There are jobs all around here, but I don't have a license yet, let alone a license for this state. I have to take my test, get my license for my old state, then get one for this state. I know I should have waited to move until I was a little more established, but I didn't so what do I do now? Is it better to apply as a Tech, and then try again when I get this state license? Or do I just go ahead and apply as a GPN and try to explain my situation?
I guess I didn't think about everything. Thanks for any input or advice!

Hello and welcome from a fellow GPN now LPN. I just graduated from my PN program in October 2005. I took my boards December 22 2005 passed the first time. When I was working as a GPN I often felt intimidated and at sometimes stupid. At one point I just wanted to leave and say forget it I dont want to be a Nurse. These times will come so my advice to you is just take a deep breath and stay focused. If you couldn't do it you would'nt have made it through school and always stick to the way you learned things until YOU feel comfortable to modify things. When people try to show u short cuts you can observe but do them the correct way you were taught. Good luck

Hello and congratulations! I also graduated my pn program in dec. 2005; I got licensed in early feb. Your story that you have posted sounds just like I was the one who posted! I too am moving to another place in early june or july of this year. You can take your test and get licensed for the state that you are moving to or you can just take it and endorse like I am. What you want to do FIRST is go the bon (board of nursing) of the state you are moving to, to find out what their requirements are for license endorsement (transfer). Once you do that, you will have more insight of what you have to do or don't have to do, which adds or cuts down the stress. Just type in "state (whichever it is) board of nursing" and go from there. I am going to endorse to ga, but before I can do that, I have to have 500 paid hrs (about 3 months experience, less if ot is available) before I can consider endorsing b/c that's their rule. But even before that, I HAVE TO GET SOMEONE TO HIRE ME SO THAT I CAN GET THE EXPERIENCE THAT I NEED, which adds to the challenge (for me anyway) of getting those hrs. Also, poke around and see what you can find, some places hire GPN'S AND THEY WORK/SHADOW a unit nurse and GET PAID NEW GRAD WAGES! Good luck to you and if you have anymore questions or concerns about anything, pm me!
