Hi! I am not in the nursing program, yet. I apply right after my spring semester ends, which will be in June 2010. I only have microbiology left.
Generally speaking, is someones GPA an indirect predictor of how they may score on most nursing entrance exams?
Have any of you volunteered at a hospital prior to your acceptance into your nursing program?
Do you believe your volunteer experience helped to increase your entrance scores? And has this experience made practicing and learning the objectives of your nursing classes easier?
Thanks for your help.:)

Some nursing programs look at volunteer experience and some don't. The one I went to looked at if you were a CNA, LPN or EMT. I think this experience will help you be more comfortable interacting with people, because to be a nurse you have to be very comforable with people. You talk with patients, families, doctors and the interdisciplinary team. You will also see things that are surprising as a nurse and have to pretend to not be surprised until you leave the room.
Yes! You're right! The experience of interacting will be a tremendous value. Thanks for the insight.

Your GPA may indicate doing well on entrance exams and it may not. Do you have a 4.0 from gym, basket weaving and psych 101? Big whoop! Do you have a 4.0 from composition, micro, A&P? more impressive. It really depends on the classes you have taken to get that GPA. From my experience, entrance exams are pretty basic and easy.
I have a 4.0 in everything by my math class, which was an A- (3.9?). And I still have to take micro.
Are you aware of good study materials for the Kaplan test?
