Hi I'm doing a case scenario and Can you help me?

Published

Subjective Data:

  • Pleasant elderly man of normal weight.
  • Independent at home prior to admission
  • Confusion noticeable at times – he asks the same questions a few times over and occasionally can't remember the answers. Other than that he interacts normally.
  • Donald states I don't want to spend my days stuck in bed, I'm not dying.”

Objective data:

  • Obs Stable, within normal limits for a 79 year old person.
  • Regular meds charted, IV antibiotics, pain relief PRN
  • Enoxaparin BD as charted. Commenced Warfarin yesterday, 5mgs daily.
  • Swabs positive VRE – Additional precautions to be taken
  • Client's mobility to be assessed by the physiotherapist, using a 4 wheely walker at the moment.
  • Wound Care daily – per wound chart
  • ACAT assessment pending – they will assess this patient prior to discharge.

and I got question asking

  1. Donald is due for his IV antibiotics and his S/C Enoxaparin. The Medical Imaging nurse has arrived to take him for a chest X-Ray and states that she must go now as they are waiting. Explain how you will prioritise his care

I dont understand that part where 'donald is due for his IV antibiotics and his S/C Enoxaparin'

Does this mean it's the time that medication has to be administered? I don't get the question overall

Patients can go with IV pumps to most imaging studies. The only one that is excluded is the MRI. XRs are also less than 15 minutes long, so it's not like you would be committing a med error if you decide to wait to give the medications until after he is back.

Welcome!

We are happy to help but we ask ALL students to post what they think first and then we will jump right in

Since the medications are "due" now he should get them and then be sent on his way. Unless this is the first time he is getting these medications, especially the antibiotic. In that case, he should get the medication and then be observed for signs of reaction before going to xray. Alternatively, they can do do a chest xray at the bedside.
