Hi everyone!!

Hi all!! Thanks for all of the great everyone has given me in regards to any past questions I've had. I changed my username to hno100. It used to be hnp5.

It sounds like UMC is a great hospital. I've been working for about a year as a nurse associate (the same thing as a nurse apprentice out there) in a cardiovascular ICU at the cleveland clinic. I like that fast pace! I've been applying all over in ICU's, but I think I'm going to have to start on a medsurg somewhere. Hopefully I can get back to my ICU's quickly!

Either way, I can't wait to get out there! Maybe I'll see some of you all on the floors! I graduate next month, and then we'll be out there shortly after! Yay! Take care...

I'd try Sunrise too for ICU. They have many ICU specialty areas, trauma, pulm shock, MSICU, etc. They also hire new grads right into ICU. Even if you don't see a position on their website I would call and talk to the nurse manager on the ICU area you want. Sometimes they have the pull to "create" a position for you (usually this just means hiring you out of the normal group hiring pattern for ICU, you'll still get the critical care training with classroom time but it just might be you and one other rather than a class of 7 people).

Good luck!

Thank you SO MUCH for that little gem of information! You can't find these things out by looking at the job board. Do you work there?

Nope. Don't work there yet. I have clinicals there right now and the info I'm passing on is from RN's I met there during rotation. We get to rotate to ICU,ER, surgery, etc. ER also has a new grad program. I've heard UMC is really hard to get into as a new grad if you haven't had your clinicals there and don't know anyone. Good luck.

UMC is fairly hard to get into, from what I have heard. I personall work at UMC as a nurse apprentice, but the only way I got in was knowing some people in management. UMC is fairly competitive because they cap patient loads (on most floors) and have the most amazing benefits compared to any other hospital.
