Hi everyone! Can you help me?

U.S.A. Texas

Hi everyone! I'm a foreign graduate nurse and I've recently been offered a job in Texas.. Unfortunately, I have already sent my NCLEX application for California a month ago (shortly before I got the offer from Texas). Is it true that if I got my license in California, I have to work there first before I can be endorsed to Texas? Since I haven't taken the test yet in Texas, is it possible for me to change my application from California to Texas.. Hope you can help me... I'm so confused... :smackingf

Hey there. First, you must see if California and Texas are compact states, which means you can transfer your license there. If they are, then you may take your test in Ca., then move to Texas and pay them $50 to be licensed in Texas under your Ca. license.

However, If you have not taken your NCLEX yet and it is more than 24 hours away, you can reschedule. You will probably have to pay an additional fee to the state of Texas for background investigation.

My main advice would be to get in touch with your state's board of nursing and speak with someone there regarding this because they will know the right answers for your state.

GOOD LUCK!

With a compact state, you do not transfer your license. Your compact license from your home state is good where you will be working, however, CA isn't a compact state. Licenses get endorsed...........to the new state. If you move from your legal residence to another state, then you must get another license in that state, the compact part will no longer be valid.

NCLEX exam----you cannot just change a state, you can only reschedule a location for sitting for the exam. If you are switching to Texas for initial licensure, then you begin the process all over again starting at Day 1. Texas also requires a credentials evaluation by CGFNS.
