HFOV vs Jet

When it comes to the oscillators, which vent do you prefer/like better the high frequency or the jet. I know they are both oscillators, but the way they work are different. I've been caring for my first baby on the Jet and so far I seem to like it better than the HFOV even though it takes up more room. Just wondering.

Ativan? I don't think we use that. We use Fentynl and Versed as first line, usually ordered prn q2-6hrs depending on docs, kids. Occasionally we will use morphine on a surgery kid of the other two are not working. I personally like keeping them sedated if they are fighting the vent or showing me that they are not comfortable.

Where I just left, we never sedated just because a baby was on high frequency. When we did have drugs, they would usually want us to ASK them to give a PRN dose... it sucked. But, I also dont believe they need to be sedated just because they are on it. Most rest just fine or no different then being on a conv. vent.

Some kids the docs ask us to give sedation round the clock. These are usually the sicker kids who need it. If I have a kid who is climbing out of his isolette, pulling at tubes and lines, I'm sedating to protect the kid. Not for my convenience.
