HFCC - Financial aid - Need to know

Published

Hi all

My brother's girlfriend is starting next semester wat HFCC. She is trying to make the decision as to whether she should accept student loans or not. She did get a pell grant. Will the leftover pell grant money pay for her books and a few supplies, or should she take out loans for that? I go to EMU and they don't allow us to do that, but I had a friend that goes to Schoolcraft and they did allow her to.

Thanks in advance!!

I attend OCC and yes you can use Government and Federal student loans to pay for books, and supplies bought in OCC's bookstore. If she needs extra money, she can take out a student loan, and use the funds for that purpose.

Hope that helps... :wink2:

Im going into second semester in January at HFCC and my books for first were a little over $500.00, those were only the required ones though. Also I pay out district and my tuition was 1200.00 I only needed nurseing courses though. Hope this sheds a little light on things for you.

The max I recieved from the Pell grant at my college is $750 per semester but that is only if I was going over full-time, it is a lot lower around $350 when I am going part-time. If she has enough money just from the Pell grant alone then she should just do that unless she needs extra money for other things outside of school. I look at it this way, a lot of the personal student loans are a lot lower in interest rate than credit cards so if she needs extra funds this would be a better way.

Thanks for the help!!!
