Hey. I'm taking psychology of women this semester (for womens studies credit for TWU) and we're starting this group project where we have to pick an issue that is related to women and then either do community service or do a mini study on that issue. I was thinking about choosing violence against women or something and going to visit a battered women's center in my area and taking them some things to cheer them up and just talk with them..I know they need someone to talk to. Anyway, I was just wondering if any of you could give me some ideas of what I should do. Thanks and have a great day!

I think it is an EXCELLENT idea :) You could develop a questionaire for a survey and present the results to the class. Or do an interview, more like an investigative report on video and present it to the class. Find out who are these women, cultural background, education level, how many kids, income, married, unmarried, stuff of that nature. Develop questions that get to the bottom of this horrible PROBLEM! Find out what would help these women most, and what could be done to prevent domestic violence.

In the last wmn's studies class I took the book had suggestions for volunteering at the end of each chapter, one of the things that really caught my interest was to do a drive for clothes, personal items, or whatever a local women's shelter may need (contact them I'm sure they have suggestions) and then donating the items. I'm sure you could tie that in with surveying too. It might be interesting to see what kind of people donate.
