hey im a highschool student tat needs some clarification so help me plzz

If you want to be a corpsman, all you have to do is go enlist in the navy and say that you want corpsman to be your rate (job). After bootcamp, you will go to Corps School. I'm not sure how long corps school is.

The only preparation you need is getting in shape and being able to get yelled at...b/c you will do a lot of pt at bootcamp and will be yelled at.

So you just need to speak with a recruiter about getting enlisted.

The son of one of my friends is a Navy Corpsman and is leaving for Iraq in a couple of months (married with a 3 month old).

Sorry, I digressed.... All you should need to do is contact a Navy Recruiter. She/he can point you in the right direction. You have to take the ASVAB but you're lucky that boot camp isn't what it was like when my husband went through (my son just finished Army boot camp). The Navy will train you... Good luck!

Hey there thissucks101477, first of all thank you for pursuing your dreams of being in the military, because it's honorable and you are the person we need to keep our country as strong as it is and to defend our way of life. Get excellent grades in school so when you do become a Navy Corpsman and if at a later date you want more (like a Nurse or a Doctor) you'll have the educational leverage behind you. Keep your head up and remember your calling into the military is from a greater source other that here on earth. Don't listen to the ones who try to discourage you from following your dreams, you understanding the calling unlike them. If you have the time, read some emergency medical books or the like, and see if you can ride along with your local EMT/ fire service or volunteer in the ER at a hospital (may need parent to sign off for you). This will give you a feel of what you could do out in the field. I've been in the military for 11 years and am in the process of getting my commission in the USAF Nurse Corps.

Becoming a corpsmen is one of the most honored rates in the Navy, ask a Marine they tell you. Why do you desire to become a corpsmen? I have worked with some of the best people on earth and they were corpsmen, some of the smartest too. You need to speak to a recruiter though and see what the current rate totals are. Sometimes a rate will get full and they will push you to another rate, make sure they can put you were you want to go BEFORE signing anything. Corps School lasts about 13-16 weeks, some of that depends on your grades in school.

I have one suggestion, with a username like "thissucks101477" you may need to adjust your attitude. Think about it, no matter what you say here, our first impression is your name.

Hello,

I agree, "thissucks" is not necessarily the worldview I would associate with a corpsmen... Just reading that as a siggy even seems psychologically/emotionally toxic and as being from someone I would choose not to associate with. Not a winning attitude.

As I'm not a recruiter, I really don't know. Each branch of service has its own requirements. Each rating (ie: corpsman, MP, etc.) in each branch of service has its own requirement. Its not too early to contact your local recruiter and talk about things like this. My son signed while he was still in high school and went to basic training after he graduated.

Someone else commented that you need to check the rating with your recruiter to make sure it's still open. I'd not thought about that. My husband was an FT2 in the Coast Guard for years. His rating closed (full) so he couldn't move up to FT1 even though he'd passed all the tests, had all the recommendations, etc. He was working on getting into officer school but decided to leave the service.

Before you sign anything, make sure that all of the promises are in writing..signed by you and the recruiter... If not, you may not get what you think you are. Since you are so young, I would take at least one parent with you at least once to speak with the recruiter. We went with our son. Whether teenagers wish to agree or not, parents generally are more world wise and can help steer children in better directions and generally are looking out for their children's best interests.

Finally, I would take the advice of the others and change your screen name on here. I realize you are a teenager and this is teenage vernacular but it doesn't make for a good impression. Gool luck!

If I'm not mistaken, I think everyone who enlisted int the service must take the ASVAB. They usually offer it at your high school in your JR or SR yr. I recall that I even took it in high school....everyone had to take it at my high school. Also, I think my brother took it a couple of times before he left for Marine Boot camp, to obtain the highest score possible.

Good luck with your future plans and don't let anyone discourage you from joining if that is want your goal is. I had several people try to talk me out of being a nurse in the navy...but look at me now!

From what I hear the ASVAB that you take in high school will not "count" for enlistment.

Acutally, your ASVAB is good for up to two years after you take it, and you can take it as many times as you want.

It has all the details about the ASVAB.

Here's what the website says:

"The Military uses students' ASVAB scores to identify the occupations that best suit their abilities. Junior, senior, and postsecondary school students can use their ASVAB scores for enlistment for up to two years after taking the test. Students are also eligible to retake the test at any time."

So yes it does count for enlistment, as long as you have taken it within two years. Like I said my brother took it twice while he was in high school to help him pick his MOS for the Marines.
