Hi guys
Today I found out that I got accepted to the nursing program at uw-oshkosh BSN program in the fall of 2005. I can't wait to start. I don't even know what else to say. Any of you guys share your experence in nursing school as a guy. Positive or negative!
Thanks everyone

Congrats !!! I've been my nursing program for a year now and I have no problem being as a guy. One thing I've noticed during clinical is that my classmates tend to ask me for help alot, especially lifting or repositioning patients. And for some reason, I'm not comfortable giving a bed bath to a female patient. But other than that, everything is not that tough. You will find yourself busy with reading and writing clinical papers throughout the semester. So enjoy your break before school starts. Good luck

Hey, congratulations on getting accepted. I'm a student in Milwaukee. It can be rough being a guy in RN school, but just roll with it. I'm glad that this forum has a 'guy area' to discuss things! I stumbled across it during a procrastination session while studying. Not real familiar with how all this works yet, but feel free to email me!

Congratulations and good luck!!!!
Just finishing my first year, final tomorrow. As for advice, the greatest advice I received this year is don't give up. If your school is like mine there is a reason that you got in, you are an excellent candidate. Getting in is hard, staying in is harder; not that the academics will get you, the sheer amount of work can be overwhelming. Care Plans, Functional Health Patterns, Process Recordings, paperwork, paperwork, paperwork. Oh yeah then there is your first CODE BROWN (don't worry it usually isn't life threatening....lol). Make sure you have a support system, let those in your life know that this is going to be a lot of work and with their help you will have a wonderful career. Try to keep things balanced and in perspective, and if you are like me and always were an A student in college, prepare to maybe not always get the A. Nursing is very objectively subjective and though there are many answers there is only one right answer, you'll do great if you remember to take care of yourself and ask for help when you need it.
I do recommend a book for you to read over the summer "How to live through Nursing School and maybe learn to love it", it is an easy read and gave me a lot of insight into what I was to expect over the course of the next two years.
Again Good Luck
