On the news this morning they announced that FEMA trailers would FINALLY be coming to the island to house people who were made homeless by Ike. And - the Red Cross shelter is closing.
I caught another story about a woman who has been living in her car (!) outside her damaged home for the past 40 days - waiting for a FEMA inspector to show up.
We hear that John Sealy hospital is on the rocks also - permanent layoffs are imminent.
What's the real situation? Is there anything we can do to help?

people don't realize that just because the media has moved on to another hysterical subject the havoc still has not be resolved
and there are vultures out there as well...a friend who workds in real estate said that someone had wanted her to see if there was 'choice land' that could be snapped up for cheap from someone who has been wiped out
