HESI

Who has to make 850's or better on the HESI's? At my school you are required to make 850 or better every quarter.

What do you think about the HESI? I think if you are taught the material needed to pass the HESI then that's great. If you're not taught what you need to know during the quarter for the HESI, it sucks big time.

I don't think a student should be passed/failed solely on the HESI. I had an 82 average in Med/Surg. Tests: 73,74,83,84,96 and couldn't pass the HESI. I am now required to retake the class and HESI.

dude. that sucks. we only have to make an 850 at the end.

We have the $#@&* HESI and they want us to hit an 850 for the benchmark. I'm a first semester senior and we had one test our first semester and two last semester. I've hit benchmark 2 out of 3 times and barely missed the one.

I'm about to take my OB HESI and I'm kind of nervous but a lot of students in the class ahead of us have said that the teacher really prepares you for this test.

In the previous three tests we all whined and complained that none of the info on the test was even covered in classes. Even though I did well on two of the tests, I felt like nothing in our lectures prepared us for the material on the test. I rarely miss class and I did well on tests but the HESI is a completely different animal. On one of our tests we had some pharm questions on there and, at that point, we had not even taken the pharm course. A lot of people complained but it didn't do any good. There were several questions on these tests with words and terms we had never even heard of, skills we were never taught, and assessment findings that we never covered. On one test, we had about 6 questions about caring for a cancer patient in a home health setting. First of all, we only covered some of the patho and end of life care for a cancer patient. Secondly, we never once talked about any home health issues. Getting a lot of cancer questions messed up a LOT of students - myself included.

I have another theory about HESI. I think for some people, how well you do on the test is just a matter of what kind of day you are having. I say that half jokingly but my friend that is off-the-charts smart scored only a 725 on one HESI while another student that barely makes Cs made a 870-something. That is just statistically weird.

The ONE thing I vowed to do on future tests is to TRUST MY GUT! I didn't do that on the test I scored the lowest on. I changed SEVEN answers on that test and it killed me!

Our program uses HESI as the criteria to determine where you do your preceptorship in our final semester. The students that hit benchmark the most and with the highest scores get placed in the top precept positions of his/her choice while those that don't hit benchmark get placed in the least desired slots.

Our program also uses HESI as a graduation requirement. During our senior semester we take a HESI the second or third week of school, another one at the half-way point, and the final one at the end of the semester. If you hit benchmark on any one of these you graduate. If you hit it on the first test, you still have to take the other two but you don't have the pressure of making benchmark. We also have to take a NCLEX prep class our senior year. If you hit benchmark on the first test and you volunteer to tutor another student you don't have to take the prep class!

good luck with your HESIs! The best advice I can offer is to use that Evolve HESI book and trust your instincts!

Im glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.

In my nursing program of 2 yrs, you take 8 HESI's, 1 midcurricular and 1 Exit HESI and must make 850 on all of them. Sucks. I will never promote people go to this college.

We've complained and wrote letters but nobody cares.

Holy cr@p! I just counted and we take NINE HESIs before we can graduate!

Fundamentals

Psych

Med-Surg 1

Med-surg 2

OB

Peds

Advanced Fundamentals (precept) - THREE but we only have to benchmark 1 out of those three to count as our 'exit' exam.

Well I am so glad that my school does not require us to pass with a certain amount of points. We do take them at the end of the semester for most classes, but I think they use it more as an assessment. So far I have taken them for fundamentals, health assessment and OB, but I have managed to score from 1030-1050 on each. Every time I take it though I feel like I am just guessing on the answers.
