HESI Prep Book 3rd edi. Vs 4th edi?? Help!

Published

Good evening all,

I am fixing to take my HESI in a couple days and am very nervous. I bought the HESI admission assessment review book by elsveir 4th edition. But for some reason I see everyone raving about the 3rd edition? Is there a big difference I'm missing over all I've looked into both and they both seem pretty similar to me. It's just that everywhere I go they are always sold out of the 3rd edition and always have a full stock of the 4th edition. Does any one know why or if there's any difference between the two?

Thanks!!

I have the same questions as well. Not sure which one to get :/

I have both because I had the same question lol. I only paid $5 for a used third edition and bought the 4th edition new. Get the 4th edition. They are basically the exact same except the 4th edition has a pre- and post-test while the 3rd edition only has a post-test. Also, in the 4th edition, there is some added information regarding the conversion chart in the math section.

Hope this helps!

Hi, my name is Firmante Paul .

I'am looking for your help.

I'am a 55 years old woman nursing student

I have to the HESI exam in a month, I'am very nervous about it

So please is there anyway you can help?

Sorry sadria21, I'm just now seeing your post. I can tell you what I did to prepare. I'm pretty satisfied with my scores-

Overall- 96%

Reading Comp- 92%

Grammar- 96%

Vocab- 100%

A&P- 100%

Math-92%

Critical Thinking- 900

I used the same resources that most people use-

-Hesi Admission Assessment Exam Review by Elsevier (4th ed.)

-McGraw-Hill's 3 Evolve Reach (HESI) A2 Practice Tests

-Pocket Prep HESI app.

I wouldn't really recommend that second book. The questions weren't like the actual exam, but it did help to take full-length practice exams. The app was hands down the most helpful for me! I just used it everyday for A&P, but there are questions for all sections. I also watched A&P lectures from Anatomygmc on youtube for the body systems because I hadn't taken A&P II before the test. I focused on A&P and grammar when I studied. For the other sections, I just did the practice questions in the Elsevier book.

My biggest tip would be to go through all questions in the Elsevier book and figure out your weaknesses (mine were A&P and grammar, surprisingly). Work on those the most by finding practice questions on quizlet or any website. Do that until you master each section. Work on the sections that you don't consider yourself weak in, but put most of your time into working on the sections you have trouble with!

Hope this helped!

Thanks for the helpful information. I am taking the Hesi exam in Sept.

I am planning to take it soon as well! I haven't start it yet.. need to study

Do you mind if I ask what the difference is on the conversion chart? My exam is next Thursday and I would rather not order the 4th edition just to see the chart, haha. If you don't see this in time, its all good! I am feeling prepared and ready to move on to new information, but am still curious. The 3rd edition was great, yet felt like they should have had practice problems for the conversions. I found some online, but still if they are going to cover the information and have practice problems, then do it for all of the information! Duh!

I honestly can't remember. I gave away my books to a friend. If you tell me what all is in the 3rd edition's chart, I might be able to tell you what's missing.

Oh okay, well the 3rd edition chart covers:

Temp - Celsius & Fahrenheit (0°C = 32°F) and (100°C = 212°F)

Length - metric (1 kilo through 2.54 cm) and english (1 mile through 1 ft)

Volume and capacity - metric (1L through 1 mL) and english (1 gal through 1 oz)

Weight and mass - metric (1 kilo through 1 g) and english (1 ton though 2.2 lbs)

And military time too.

Congratulations, AHawkins. You did great. Please, what did you use to study for the critical thinking section? Thank you.

Thanks Olusubomi-

I did not study for the critical thinking section since there's really no way to prepare for it.

Just remember A,B,Cs (Airway, breathing, circulation) is always priority when caring for patients. The elderly and children usually need close attention to.

When you answer questions, just try to think which patient is most critical and needs assistance first. Maybe practicing some fundamental questions will help, but it's not necessary. Good luck!
