HESI exams help

Published

Hi, I'm new to this site but can already see that it is a great source of support and information. I'm currently enrolled in a LPN/Paramedic Bridge program at Florida State College at Jacksonville. The school has us doing HESI exams every semester on certain topics. My first HESI exam is on Pediatrics and Maternity. The only thing is, we're only half way through the course on this subject matter and I'm really confused on how exactly they can test our knowledge on an entire subject when we haven't even finished the course work yet. I was wondering if anyone here had experience with format of HESI exams and could offer me any information. My professor is no use and basically agrees that we're going to be tested on material that we have yet to read and study but just says that's the way it is. Any one have any experience with this? I've used the available HESI resources put there to practice for the exam but of course the questions cover some material that's just foreign to me at this point. Any thoughts?

Thsnks,

Shaun

Is this really for a grade or to see where you're at now and to repeat later?

Oh, it's for a grade. 80% to pass, just like every other exam. That's why I'm concerned about it. I can potentially be pulled from the course for failing an exam that covers future course work. Doesn't make any sense to me. I'm just wondering if any one else here had had a similar situation.

Are you sure that the HESI will cover material that has not been covered? The specialty HESI exams are developed for the school based on a submitted syllabus provided to Elisver. These are school specific unlike the exit HESI and HESI A2 which are standardized exams.

I would also question if you are being tested on Peds and OB - is lecture simply running behind and you are not expecting that you will cover all the material by lecture prior to the end of the semester? Is there another peds and OB scheduled to cover the remaining material? Many times in nursing school you may be expected to learn material by self study.... if you are simply running behind and will not cover the material by the end of the semester, trust me that it will be covered on the NCLEX and they will not accept that you never received a lecture on it as an excuse.
