Hello!!
My name is Mary and I am currently a student at Herzing University in Orlando, FL. During my search for accredited nursing programs in my area, I used allnurses.com to find reviews from fellow students on various public and private institutions. While most reviews were helpful, some were just outright negative! Making the decision to transition into nursing was not easy for me, so I decided to start a blog to share my experience as a student at Herzing University to offer an alternative options to students like myself who do not have the highest TEAS scores but have worked their butt off in prerequisite courses and have a passion for helping others.
I am taking my two remaining prerequisite courses at the moment (computers and medical terminology). Once I pass and complete these courses, I will begin Nursing core in January. I decided to stick with the ASN track over the BSN track, just so that in 14 months, I will be able to sit for the NCLEX and apply to a more affordable RN-BSN program while I work as a grad nurse and gain experience. Ultimately, I would like to earn my Masters degree as a Nurse Practitioner or CRNA.
Please feel free to comment if you attended or are currently attending Herzing University and which degree program you chose. I can't wait to hear from you all!

Hello,
I am interested in learning about your experience at nursing. I have been accepted into the ABSN program and would like to know how the university is and their teaching style. I would love to hear your experience and your opinion on how to succeed.
Sorry, I tried to PM you, however, the website did not allow.
Thank you.
Hey Wiggy!
Congratulations on getting accepting into the ABSN program! I am currently in the ASN program, however, in our first three semesters (each semester is 8 weeks), we are integrated with all students except students in the bridge program (LPN to RN). So far, my experience has been great! The professors are knowledgeable, the curriculum is enriching, and my school schedule coordinates well with work and other obligations I have. Even though Herzing provides all students with textbooks and the necessary resources to sit and pass the NCLEX, this program is very intense and accelerated. There is very little room to fall behind on reading and assignments. For my program, we are allotted two lecture sessions( mine is from 9am-2pm) and one lab component (mine is from 8am-4pm this term). The teaching style in the program is based on independent study. While attending lecture and lab is mandatory and helpful, in order to truly be successful in this program you must know how to apply your reading to critical thinking style questions.
Please let me know if you have any further questions...I am so excited for you to embark on your journey of becoming an RN!
Hi Marugu,
Thanks for your quick response. I am going back and forth between the ASN and ABSN program. I know ABSN is very heavily accelerated and alot of students struggle to get through it. Also, know the ABSN program is 4 months more than the ASN however, I am going back to school after long time and dont want to fail in the ABSN program. Originally, I was really excited about the ABSN program, however now I having concerns with the program and my success rate. Definitely, the schedule for ASN is much achieveable. What are your thoughts? Do you know anyone who may have switched from ABSN to ASN or BSN program? Is it worth doing the ABSN vs. ASN? I do have a good support system at home to get me through either of these programs.
The main thing that you must rid of before moving forward with any program is your fear of failing! The fact that you have been accepted into the program and given another opportunity to attend nursing school should be an indication to you that this is meant for you to complete and pass! As far as your concerns on whether to complete the ABSN vs ASN program, I think you should review the pros and cons for each program and see which one will be in your favor- which program do you feel will get you to your goal at the end of the day. I believe that both options are achievable for you, but YOU will ultimately need to make that decision since this program is based heavily on INDEPENDENT STUDY and molding you to become the most competent nurse possible.

Hello Mary! I live in Orlando as well and I have been looking into Herzing as an option for my nursing program. But after doing research people have had a lot of negative things to say about this school. How has the program been for you personally?
