Heparin Flush for CVC

Published

Hello,

I am a nursing student and I'm trying to find out if there are any hospitals that still use heparin to flush central venous catheters. My school teaches us to use heparin, yet none of the hospitals that I've worked at use heparin. If you use heparin at your hospital, I would love to know what state and what type of hospital (public, private, non-profit).

Thank You,

Allison

My current hospital does use Heparin on all central lines, but my previous hospital only used it when de-accessing ports. Neither P&P stated the rationale. I too would be interested in the literature on the subject, as it's something I have been looking into recently.

I work in a big Ca hospital and I finally found the reference used by INS and I stashed the INS flushing cards somewhere in my office . I will look for them tomorrow and will just post word for word what they say

That would be amazing, thanks iluvivt!!
